Inspired Fiction: 50 point

Short Story About Junior Year:

It was junior year if High School, I had a boyfriend named Jake, who we have been dating for more than 10 months, and our Homecoming was approaching soon.  Like all the girls in our school, I was looking forward in dancing and seeing all my friends there in their pretty dresses. “Homecoming” was the only word that was heard throughout the halls. Since I went the previous year, I wanted to go that year especially since we were together and I though it would be fun to go with our other friends as a group thing. As the day got closer I was thinking about going shopping with my friends and looking for a dress and shoes that I can wear for that night.
The next day at school, I noticed that Jake was acting kind of strange and avoiding to me. I would approach him and slowly touched the subject of Homecoming to see if he would ask me if I wanted to go…but nothing. The only reply I would get back was, “oh how was your day?” or “they’re giving free pizza at the lunch line after school today, you want to get some?” I knew something was up and when I would ask him what was wrong and he just kept saying, "nothing," so I left it like that.
Later that week his best friend, Evan ran up to me and told me that he didn't have the courage to tell me that he didn't want to go to Homecoming since he doesn't like to dance. Me being his girlfriend, I understood and didn't push the issue.
What made me upset though was the fact that we broke up that same week and I found out that he was taking his new girlfriend to Homecoming. I would see them everyday walking the hallways and just me thinking to myself that I would find someone better in my life and who respects me enough to never do such a thing like that. Pictures of them were posted on Facebook and how he was happy that he was going. I let this go thinking to myself that I will find something better in my life. Plus to be honest…I didn't like Homecoming at our school.
That year I didn’t end up going to Homecoming and ended up spending time with my best friend, Odette, know that is was her last year and I wanted to cherish every moment that we had the chance to hang out.

From this day on we are still friends even though what he did was wrong. He even came to visit me here at Ohio University with his best friend during Halloween. And although we will never be together again, I will cherish every moment we spent together and thank him for making me a stronger person and teaching me how to face my inner emotions. We have moved on and are now attending different colleges. Although that happened, I forgave him and remind myself that everything happens for a reason.

Zombies, Run!: 25 points

In this new app, Fear Running, provides the user to contain a healthy life style by just running for 20 minutes a day. This app provides a numerous list of phobias that they might have and in order to overcome those fears, the user must run from their fear. A photo of video of that object will appear on the user's device to trigger their brain that the only way to over come that object is to run. For example, if I were afraid of sharks, I would select the phobia of sharks (Selachophibia). When pressed a virtual video of a shark will show up and will start the timer on how long the user has in order to run from the shark. the device counts how many steps are taken and senses if the steps slow down which then shows the shark swimming closer towards the screen. there will be sound effects such as the theme song from "Jaws" for instance to motivate the runner. there may be chopping and biting noises to create the illusion of the shark being there with the user. The goal of this app is to help the user to not only stay fit but to over come a fear. although there may be a limit on how many phobias the app can hold, there will be enough for the user to find their fear.

Never A Goodbye by N. Lugo

Waving to his wife and kids, thinking it would be his last time seeing them, a flower petal surfed the winds. Sunrise rose as the smoke from the cannons blinded him. He can hear the laugher of his kids in the distance as another flower petal danced in the wind.

Breath by N. Lugo
Chills ran up my spin. Seeing my own tomb stone made me sick. Why did I have to do this? Night was falling and sooner or later they’ll be looking for me. I slowly bent down to kiss the stone knowing this was just the beginning. “Goodnight Carrie, sweet dreams.”

John Lasseter: A Day in a Life

To Hawaiian Shirts to Pixar: Lets Take A Tour With John Lasseter

LUGO, Natasha, January 29 - "John Lasseter: A Day in a Life," John Lasseter's documentary about he's every day routine as an animator. From waking up and picking from he's more than 370 Hawaiian shirts to traveling to work and confronting he's room filled with Toy Story and Car action figures, he has a pretty smooth life.
When we are taken through his work, we are introduced to the people that he works with such as some of the animators and the producer of his latest film, CARS 2.  One thing that I noticed in this film was how friendly all his coworkers are towards him as if they are one big family achieving one goal, to make a success film.
The majority of the documentary is based on how he starts his day and explaining how he has a lot to do everyday in order to complete this project and have it ready on time for the audience to watch. Throughout the film, we are faced with some of the people who work with him and talk to the viewer about how John has all his days scheduled.
John interacts with the animators and advice them on what they should do in order to change some parts in the film. Not only does he critique them but encourages them to good, which I found motivating to not only to the team but to the future animators watching the documentary. What stood out was the fact that he kept mentioning how everyone has a talent and that you are the only one who can look for that talent.
In my opinion, this documentary not only inspires young animators and people wanting to go into the media field but it allows the viewer to visually see what it is like to work in that field. The viewers are taken through many rooms in Pixar and are given an idea on how the film is slowly put together by the collaboration of everyone’s help.
The line John Lasseter says, “People often ask, ‘how can you possibly work on something, creatively, for four years, and still be into it?’ everyday you see something that you’ve never seen before in your life here at Pixar” is a quote that’s not only motivating but allows the viewer to rethink about their own life. Heather Feng. Executive Manager of CARS 2, requites John by ending the documentary with, “John always says that if you love what you do then you never work a day in your life.”

Life is Interactive: 10 points

Life is Interactive:

Dear Odette,

I was thinking the other day about the play that we were in, FAME, when we were in High School...maybe because I was wearing the shirt. I remember watching being their watching you perform in all your plays and supporting you through your hard times when trying to remember your lines. Watching you perform made me think that I maybe I should try performing in a play. That being said, the play FAME came to our school and I remember having rehearsals every day after school. At first I didn’t want to perform since I can’t act, but you pushed me to do it. From just another person in the audience watching a play to a performer. Although rehearsals were not always fun and required work when it comes to singing and dancing, we pushed through to make this play a memorable play.

I remember on our first night, being nervous and curious about how the show would turn out. Going through all the dances in my head I encouraged myself that they may be my only chance to perform in my High School. Not to mention all the late nights after performing and hanging out with the crew.

Even though I want not sure about the whole “play performing,” I decided that I would do it for my best friend knowing that it was your last year and you wanted to end it by doing something together. I am writing this letter to not only thank you for believing me but for always being a positive role model when it comes to getting involve and trying new activities. I will always cherish the FAME shirt, and wearing it will always remind me of our good times performing and meeting new people.

                                                                                                          Your little sister,

                                                                                                                    Natasha J

Interactive Storytelling: 10 points

Interactive Storytelling:

Many people have seen the film AVATAR which was released in theaters in 2008. But imagine if you were able to interact with the Na'vi people?

Like many other websites, this film deserves a spotlight in media and have its own website where users can login and create an account. When creating their account, you have the choice between being a female or male and where you want to live on Pandora, as well as adding other Avatar, such as if they have a friend with an account. After the user creates their account, the user is imported in the beds that were used to transfer humans to Pandora. When arriving to Pandora, the user has the opinion of either editing their avatar by picking what weapons they want in order to hunt and attack or adopting a Mountain Banshee (ikran in Na’vi), which can help the user fly to different parts throughout Pandora. When adopting their “ikran,” the player is able to run and try to jump in their back and connect their hair to the tail in order to “seal the commitment” of their pet. As the game continues the user’s Avatar is able to upgrade levels and ranks in which they are able to construct their own home and status in the Na’vi population.

Throughout the game, the gamer is faced with obstacles in order to save Pandora. These obstacles may include, humans shooting in the forest, attacking tanks and planes with the weapons that the player may have. The player is able to “buy” weapons throughout the game by collecting seeds from the Great Tree and returning them which are then converted to “points.” For life, there should be three main lives that can be taken away if the player does in a battle between the humans or any creatures in which they are faced with.

This game should be never ending in order to give the player a chance to interact and have the opportunity to continue to play and add fellow Avatars.
